The Question

December 6, 2010 MuseumChick

I seem to have a lot of Francophile readers. I think this because the question I get the most is, “where can I get original and relatively inexpensive art in Paris?”

Of course you could wander around the 6th arrondissement stopping in galleries on Rue des Beaux-Arts to find great original work but it won’t be inexpensive. Then there are the street artists in the Montmartre- fun and inexpensive but not original.  So, since I know that this request for original and inexpensive art work is not easy to come by, I want to share where I found it with you.

Go to the Marché de la Création Bastille.

Every Saturday from 10am to 7pm painters, sculptors, photographers and designers set up their stalls of original, not reproduced works, to line the Boulevard Richard Lenoir.

And one of the best parts is you can meet the artist and if you can speak a little French, you can talk to them about their inspirations for their art, which always makes for a more special piece on your wall.

You can visit the website to get more of the particulars. If you are in Paris, I definitely recommend stopping by the Marché de la Création Bastille and getting something to make your walls more vibrant.
