Joan Miró Will Brighten Your Christmas

December 25, 2010 MuseumChick

Did you know Joan Miró died on Christmas day 27 years ago? Leave it to me to brighten your Christmas Day.

I’m not sure if passing on Christmas Day is a blessing or a curse but it is interesting and seems like a fitting end of life to an interesting and creative man.

On a short trip to Barcelona last summer I strolled through Parc de Montjuïc to see the large collection of Miró work at the Joan Miró Foundation. Originally formed by a group of artists, intellectuals, friends and relatives of Joan Miró it now houses a large collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures, the majority donated by Miró himself. The building was designed by architect, Josep Lluís Sert who worked with Miró on the design. It is contemporary in style and built according the the principles of Rationalist architecture.

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!
