10 Fun Things to do in Nyack, New York (the best day trip from NYC)
May 24, 2010 MuseumChick
I realized that after writing my last post, that if you decide to make the pilgrimage to the Edward Hopper House Art Center, there are so many other fun things to do in beautiful and historic Nyack, New York that you should know about. I should know…I lived here for a few years. So I compiled my top 10 list…because I know you love Top 10s!…
10 Fun Things to do in Nyack, New York:
1. Picnic in Memorial Park on the Hudson River- it has a kid's playground, tennis and basketball courts and great views of the river.
2. Catch a movie, lecture or event at Riverspace
3. Visit the Edward Hopper House Art Center for a current exhibition or children's or adults' workshop, then do a scavenger hunt around town to spot Hopper's painting inspirations.
4. Eat and people watch at one of the cafes or restaurants on busy Main Street.
5. Catch a Farmers' Market or Street Fair
6. Hike the beautiful trails and parks. My favorites are Hook Mountain and Nyack Beach State Park, which has a trail along the Hudson River.
7. Go shopping and antiquing to find unique and sometimes hand-made gifts.
8. See a play at the Elmwood Playhouse
9. Gawk at the historic houses that line the river. The Nyack Historical Society sometimes has house tours.
10. Be morbid and hike through the Oak Hill cemetery to find famous graves such as those belonging to artist, Edward Hopper and actress, Helen Hayes.
How to get to Nyack from NYC:
If you are planning a trip from NYC- take the Metro North to Tarrytown and from there catch the TZX (Tappenzee Express) bus across the Tappenzee Bridge into Nyack. Or drive.

Wow. I teach college-level English Lit, and I've never seen someone so sour about usage! Cheer up, Geoffrey — word usage evolves.
Great site, Danee. My bf and I are about to test some of your advice in Nyack. Keep it up!

We camped in Nyack on the 2009 Hudson Valley Pedal and had breakfast at the Runcible Spoon.. It was one of the best parts of the entire ride. I would love to come back and actually get to see more of the town.. My dad worked at Nyack hospital back in the 1940s and still talks about how much he liked the place.

Hi Geoffrey. I appreciate your feedback but according to many dictionaries, including Webster's, fun can be used as a noun, adjective or verb.

You make Nyack look very pleasant, but I wonder about your literacy. "Fun" is a noun, as in "We had fun in Nyack". It is not, repeat, not, an adjective, as in "Fun things to do in Nyack". Of course, maybe no one cares. That's what worries me.

Wow Danee! You have been very busy! I love the site. Your pictures are beautiful – Wish I could get to see some of these places. You never know, maybe some day. Most importantly I'm looking forward to see you and Gil! Glad you got to come home. If you're still here call us!
